Patty Maly was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. She attended the Art Academy of Cincinnati and earned a BFA from Xavier University in 1984.

Primarily a potter for the past 20 years, Patty is now focused on paintings, monotypes and decorative tiles.  Oil paint provides the luminous and rich saturated colors that she relishes.  The process of printing monotypes enable the expressive energy that was a constant in her ceramic art. Objects that hint of their own history, that spark a feeling or memory find there way into her still lifes.  The gesture found in the human figure and nature give life to her paintings, prints and custom tile work.

Along with painting and printmaking she has recently taken on a few other projects. In the past year she has collaborated with fellow artist Maggie Rudy on a series of large salmon using recycled plastics titled “Waste Stream”. It was included in the “2005 Sitka Invitational” and “Sitka at Sera” in 2006. Three fish of the collection are installed at the Sera Architecture and Design office in downtown Portland.  Another group was installed at the Patagonia store in Portland in the spring of 2007. During the 2005-2006 school year, she collaborated with the students of Arbor School for the Arts and Sciences.  They created and installed a ceramic map of their 18 acre campus in Tualatin, Oregon. She also created tiles for a new Children’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado in 2006.
